Happy day two to you! OK, so yesterday we advocated for taking something OFF your plate for the holidays. And you know what? Let’s keep that delegation train a-rolling for just one more day.

For today’s task, we’re asking you to hand over the (sleigh) reins to your kids…and have them plan their own holiday party! Now, hold on don't leave this email just yet! I know that may sound scary. So let’s talk through it together. First, let’s start off with the basics…

        Set some boundaries:
‘Cause who runs the world? Welp, grown-ups do.

        • Number of Guests
          • Don’t stress yourself. Even a two-kid party can feel like a novelty if you do it right! Or maybe it’s no kids and instead it’s a tea party with both Grandmas. The options are endless and small can be fun, too!
        • Time & Date
          • The grown-ups set the time and date that works for them.
        • Budget
          • Use this as a learning experience about $$$! Your future party planner will need to work within a budget. So set a limit and help them stick to it.

Sit down & help your kid with the dreaming & scheming:

        • What does the party look like?
          • Does it have a theme?
          • Who’s coming?
          • Is it at your home? At the park? A meet-up at a local kid-friendly restaurant?
          • Does it need one activity (let’s not overload ourselves with more, unless it’s fun) or is it more of a loose hang-out?

        Some things to suggest:

          • Hand draw your own invites & deliver them
          • Plan the itinerary (if needed)
          • Make a playlist
          • Create homemade party favors like…
            • Kid-made cards
            • A homemade snack or store-bought treat
            • Or something totally kid crazy like a handful of loose balloons. Let your kids lead this (within reason) and see what they come up with!

So let those holiday party planners loose & see what happens! We can't wait to be tagged in every single picture please & thank you! #ShareChicagoParent
