Look, Christmas is a lot about the kids. And I know you do your fair share to make that magic happen. You care so much you’ve subscribed to a daily email series about holiday magic making, for goodness sake!
But tonight? I want you to call a sitter, grab your partner, put on some real person clothes and run for the hills.
And don’t just go to the place down the street you always go. Give the night a little something extra by checking out one of the many holiday pop-up bars our little metro Detroit area has to offer!
And since we’re the parenting place, we don’t exactly specialize in bar lists. But our friends over at VisitDetroit.com do! So we’re letting them lead you to the right watering hole this time of year. See here for their most excellent local list.
Personally, I’m choosing Griswold’s Hideaway in Royal Oak. A holiday pop-up bar inspired by… you guessed it…everyone’s favorite holiday disaster film, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
Not into the whole bar thing?
Not to worry! There are plenty of igloos out there where you grab a festive meal! My personal favorite? Detroit Fleat, which boasts adorable igloos, hot chocolate service and a kids play place within sight of your igloo. That won’t be something you’re worried about on this night out, of course. But next time? You can stay warm & cozy while you watch your kids brave the cold & run off them energies. 😜
So throw on something red, green or sparkly & make like you’re the couple at the center of the Hallmark movie. ‘Cause sometimes you just need to eat, drink & be merry.

Lauren & the Metro Parent team
